Meeting Report November 13 2010

Auckland Meccano guild meeting 13th November 2010

The meeting took place at the home of Les and Shirley Megget in Papakura.

Rick Vine brought along a straight line machine which allowed the user to turn a handle at one end and the machine proceeded to follow a straight line.
Rick had also built a fire engine using a master builder set 7064 and had made up a nano robot kit.

Gerald Hart had made up an impressive looking steam powered truck, an excavator and a nice model of a motorcycle built around a no1 clockwork motor.

Les Megget has his huge Leibherr mobile crane on display in the lounge and confessed that he did a lot of his meccano modeling there, even though he has a separate room for such activities. I think we all do a bit of this Les.

William Irwin had brought his usual selection of Meccano related magazines from around the world.

Graeme Mills had made up a very nice model of a bulldozer international T24

John Denton had made up his version of a cyclic color mixer.

Gary Higgins had brought along a small aircraft modeled in eitech and a selection of dog chew tires in various sizes.
Gary also brought along a sunshine recorder made from meccano in the 1950's

Henry Porter had made up a motorcycle a side winding plowing traction engine and a tractor along with a full set of attachable implements, all of which worked. He had also made a star wars imperial walker.

David Wall had made up a Hummer from the big truck set, to Americana model plants which certainly looked the part.

.

Mike Stuart had made up a very well designed 5 speed and reverse gearbox driven by a marklin motor.
Graeme Wrightson had made up a 10 model set crane.

Jeff Clark was in attendance with a large selection of meccano gears for sale. He trades under the Meccagear name and has lots of goodies for prospective buyers. Coming up shortly with be a new miniature version of the GRB which will be eagerly sought after.

Others in attendance were:

Peter Hancock
George Ovenden
Neil Carey

There followed discussions led by Peter Hancock on the up and coming events for 2011 which will
be a busy year.

Starting with February folly in Taupo then the Easter convention in Palmerston North, Model X in Auckland.

Details were also finalized about the TePapa exhibition which by all accounts was a roaring success.

An excellent supper was had by all and we look forward to the next meeting in Howick .
